SCHUYLER'S LITTLE LEAGUE 4/15/2023
I went to photograph some friends of mine son playing in one of the entry levels of Little League in Pleasant Hill…. I am a baseball fan… I grew up playing sandlot… I played in all levels of game until I broke my ankle in Junior High (that's what Middle School was called back in the day)...
I coached all levels of Little League... won a District Championship or two... I am a retired District level and National Federation Umpire... twenty years between the two...
My ticket to the field these days is relegated to press photography... no complaints... I still get to brush the reddish infield clay dust from my shoes. I am in my element.
The photos you are about to view depict the very beginning... the making of baseball players... when it is still in its purest state... There are not yet any balls or strikes called... there are no umpires... no one is keeping score... no 10 second rules.... Here it is still nothing but fun for the players, with an occasional tear when one does not get a hit... Center fielders still get lost counting daisies as the ball rolls by them... Hand-eye coordination is still a few years away... as is the jawing tobacco (bubble gum these days) and the harsh competitiveness courtesy of testosterone...
This is all where it starts... I still have the best seat in the house and every August I watch the most exciting baseball game one will ever see... The Little League World Series played in Williamsport Pennsylvania... Oh... I watch 'Field Of Dreams' several times a year as well... Enjoy...
