"TOP OF THE HILL" 3/26/2018
I want to share a photo with you... Most of the time I post pix here as a chronology of the events in my life. It is kind of routine and usually I don't give it a second thought... I just hope people will enjoy looking them. Every once in a rare while though, I take a photo that strikes me and appeals to my sense of artsy. Such is the case with this photo. Some of my favorite painter artists are Norman Rockwell and Edward Hopper. Somehow this photo reminds me of that genre of of art. I was on assignment at the top of Mt. Tamalpais photographing the lakes and reservoirs of the Marin County water shed. (I'll post those pix here after the paper publishes) As I was coming up over this rise I saw the cyclist ahead at the top of the hill. I slowed to about 5 miles an hour, grabbed my flip-phone out of my pocket and took the shot. I wasn't expecting much... I just liked the moment. I took it home, threw it on the computer, cleaned it up just a little bit in Photoshop and its simplicity has really grown on me. The less than stellar quality of the flip phone lends the photo to looking like a painting. The sunglasses and softness of the hills give it an ethereal feel. When people ask me... what's the best camera... I tell them... 'the one you have in your hands when you need to take the shot.'
